Nicaragua inspired Khalil's original vision for Buy Food with Plastic. However, it didn't stop there. During another trip by co-founders Khalil and Anna to Nicaragua, they came across the globally renowned coffee beans from the region. The dream of a small café in Zurich took shape, where coffee from Nicaragua could be served. Through this business, Buy Food with Plastic could generate income, which would benefit the organization. In addition to the bottle caps we have collected, we also upcycle the collected sachets from Ghana. Sachets are small plastic bags filled with water, juices, or milk. They are popular because they are cheaper than drinks in plastic bottles. Unfortunately, after use by the local population in Ghana, they are often carelessly discarded. But at our Buy Food with Plastic Community Events in Ghana, they get a second chance – and a new purpose. Here, people exchange 30 used sachets - or 20 plastic bottles - for a hot meal. The journey of a special product that combines sustainability and community begins in a small workshop in Nicaragua. The journey begins with our social and environmentally conscious projects: the events of Buy Food with Plastic, where people from the surrounding villages can pay for a warm meal with collected plastic bottles.
