How do we implement the programs in the individual countries?
Our programs in
Nicaragua
It all began in the Rivas region
It all began in 2018 in the Rivas region of Nicaragua. Today, we take a holistic approach to prevent plastic from entering the environment in the first place and to reduce consumption in the long term. In our programs, people exchange plastic for food, income, or other basic necessities. At the same time, we raise awareness through environmental education, practical solutions such as refill options for hygiene and cleaning products, and the use of water filters to avoid single-use plastic in everyday life.
Creating sustainable cycles and local opportunities
As Nicaragua lacked suitable infrastructure for dealing with plastic waste for a long time, we have continuously expanded our own capacities. Today, we have our own trucks for collection and logistics and operate on-site recycling and processing operations. We are currently building a larger, strategically located facility in San Francisco Libre to scale our impact.
The collected plastic is processed and returned to the cycle. This creates local jobs, income opportunities, and training, while simultaneously building a functioning circular economy that strengthens and empowers communities in the long term.
Our programs in
India
Local initiative with a major impact
Our work in India began in 2020 when Shakti Yadav, who grew up in the slums of Mumbai, contacted us via social media to implement the concept in his community. Today, we are active in several slums across Mumbai and work closely with the local population.
Combining social impact and plastic reduction
Our programs enable the exchange of plastic for hot meals, food such as rice and oil, income, and other basic necessities. At the same time, we promote environmental education and create local income opportunities to open up sustainable prospects.
Collection network
To prevent plastic from ending up in the environment or on the streets in the first place, we are building a collection network with containers, especially in schools and universities. This allows us to take early action, reduce plastic in everyday life, and combine social impact with long-term prevention.
Our programs in
Ghana
Local community-led initiative
Our work in Ghana began in 2020 when George Kwame Quansah from Elmina approached us to implement the concept in his community. S
Combining environmental education with income opportunities
A key focus is on environmental education in schools, where we work with children and young people to raise awareness of plastic pollution. In addition, our programmes allow plastic to be exchanged for meals and income. This has enabled us to significantly increase the income of individual participants and create new economic opportunities.
Scaling up and expanding the circular economy
The collected plastic, including widely used sachets, is sorted and processed locally. As the capacity of our existing factory is now fully utilised, we are currently in a major scaling-up phase. A larger facility is planned to enable us to process significantly more plastic in the future, create additional jobs and further expand our impact.
