Field assignment in Ghana
On Thursday, February 16, 2023, our Swiss Ghana core team is traveling to Ghana with several volunteers.During the 10-day mission, they will further develop our work on the ground and prepare everything for the establishment of our local upcycling factory.
Exciting tasks await our project managers Elena Hauptmann and Charlotte Claveau in Ghana. Together with our volunteers Tove Fierz, Tristan Hahn, Hannah Marti, Lars Thalmann and Noëmi Rhyner, they will further develop our commitment on the ground. The highlight of the ten-day trip is the purchase of a shredder and the preparations for our first plastic production in Elmina, Ghana!
Elena is very excited: “We are really looking forward to spending time in the community and meeting the local team members, partners and advisors!” “Above all, the preparations for the establishment of our first factory and the associated office will be very exciting,” Charlotte adds.

Valuable commitment in Ghana
In addition to setting up the factory, further activities are planned:
- The organization and implementation of a community event in the village of Dwabor, where the villagers will receive a warm meal in exchange for plastic waste.
- The implementation of workshops to raise environmental awareness.
- Quality control of our work on the ground and support for the local team in expanding our commitment.
The trip offers the ideal opportunity to learn more about Ghana and its culture and thus better understand the needs. In addition, our team will gain valuable practical experience in how we can make a tangible difference in the world.

Volunteers contribute their expertise
The field mission of our volunteers is truly exemplary. They cover their own travel costs and take time off work to help the community in Ghana with their professional expertise:
Hannah is a product designer and designed the surf comb for Buy Food with Plastic. She will advise us on the ground in evaluating future products and support us in conversations with potential partners. It has not yet been decided which products we will produce in Ghana. Do you have an idea? Then share it with us in the comments section, send us an email or come by and tell us your idea at the Charity Gallery! We look forward to all input.
Noëmi is a fan of Ghana, has been traveling the country for years, and is very familiar with the culture. She has also participated in a community event. Tove, Tristan and Lars have also been volunteers with Buy Food with Plastic for a long time. They want to experience our work on the ground and roll up their sleeves where support is needed. They are all also very excited to see what impact our activities will have directly on the ground.
We greatly appreciate the motivated commitment of the volunteers! They will, in turn, incorporate the valuable experience they gain into our work. This will take us another big step forward.
You will learn what the team experienced and what successes they were able to achieve down on our blog!
