Project Ghana

We have been active in Ghana since 2021. Although we have already achieved a lot, there is still much to do. As part of the World Changing Campaign 2.0, we want to further strengthen our commitment. By the end of 2025, we plan to establish an upcycling factory and create jobs. Another focus is to support the local population on their journey towards a sustainable change in mindset. Because plastic can be quite valuable!

2025 goals at a glance

  • Community Events
  • School workshops
  • Build &operate  1 upcycling factory
  • Create 40 target jobs
  • Distribute 119,000 meals
  • Recycle up to 3.3 million plastic bottles

Community Events

Regular events are held where residents of villages in the Elmina region can exchange plastic waste for meals. We continuously conduct events and further awareness-raising measures in the same community. In this way, we hope to inform people and change their behavior:

- Children receive educational coloring books and are guided.

- We conduct school workshops in the village primary school, where teachers explain the awareness-raising material from Buy Food with Plastic.

- The village radio broadcasts information sessions. Villagers discuss plastic solutions.

Re- & Upcycling

In the remote community of Dwabor, Elmina, Ghana, there is no functioning recycling infrastructure. As a result, residents either burn or bury plastic waste, which significantly pollutes the environment and ultimately harms the local population as well.

That is why we have set up our own upcycling factory in the region, where we can process plastic bottle caps as well as the plastic bags themselves. It is the first workshop of its kind in the region.

We are currently unable to recycle the PET bottles ourselves, as this would require larger and more expensive machinery. Instead, we shred the plastic bottles and deliver them to our local recycling partner in the capital, which is about a 3-4 hour drive away.

However, the roads in Ghana are muddy and bumpy. To carry out the Buy Food with Plastic campaigns without interruption, the local team needs a powerful pickup truck that can transport large quantities of plastic bottles.

Donate now for a pickup truck and the establishment of our upcycling factory in Ghana.
