A simple idea with a big impact

The great adventure and our mission to make the world a better place began in the summer of 2018. The spark of the idea came to Khalil Radi as a student during his surfing vacation in Nicaragua.

While surfing, he spoke with locals and heard stories of parents who could no longer feed their children because they had lost their jobs due to the political situation, and he saw with his own eyes how plastic bottles and other waste ended up in the beautiful and largely untouched nature because there were no recycling facilities anywhere around.

Some mothers even set fire to the plastic bottles and used them for cooking, which in turn is incredibly harmful to their health. Suddenly, Khalil had the idea that an event where locals could buy their meals with plastic bottles could solve the two most urgent problems locally - hunger & plastic pollution.

Jaffet, a Nicaraguan employee at the bungalow where Khalil stayed, believed in the concept and organized the first event in the village of la Virgen der Morena with him. They had the courage to try this crazy idea, and the courage paid off. The two hardworking men were overwhelmed by more than 180 people and quickly realized that they could make a real impact in the village with this event. At the first event, around 2,000 plastic bottles were rescued from the environment, hungry people were provided with food, 12 jobs were created, and young and old were educated about the plastic problem. Above all, the children were thrilled by the event and could hardly wait to collect plastic bottles for the next event.
